Perched in the misty heights of the Dandenong Ranges, this project required a garden room capable of withstanding Victoria’s most dramatic seasonal shifts—from sun-drenched summer afternoons to snow-dusted winter mornings. Our brief was to create a truly versatile sanctuary that allows our clients to remain immersed in their ever-changing alpine scenery 365 days a year.
To achieve this, we engineered a sophisticated folded-seam roof featuring a central clerestory and motorised windows. This design choice was pivotal; it invites an abundance of natural light and essential airflow while providing the structural insulation necessary for precise climate control. Whether the sun is beating down or the temperature drops below freezing, this garden room remains a pinnacle of comfort.
The interior is anchored by a custom-integrated bookcase featuring a central solid-fuel heater—a striking focal point that balances architectural form with cozy, functional warmth. To dissolve the boundaries between the home and the landscape, we installed fully retractable doors on both the northern and southern elevations. During the warmer months, these walls vanish, allowing the garden room to flow seamlessly into the garden and creating an expansive, open-air living space.
The result is one of our most resilient conservatories to date: a masterclass in year-round luxury that brings the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges right to the fireside.
